In New Salem, there are witches. Being a witch doesn't mean you just wave your hand in the air and suddenly an elephant will appear! Heres some guidelines to follow if you're one of the magically inclined.
Yes, there are spells. Little rhymes with words like, 'thee,' and 'thou,' are common in witch-culture. Feel free to make up a spell, and PM in to the admin Hawky, or me (admin) to be added to the official list of spells. If you're RPing and don't want to make up a rhyme, just say your character said it, or if you have a powerful witch, say they merely pushed with their mind, causing the desired effect.
No, there aren't cool, cool powers. Sure, a witch can control the elements Earth, Air, Water, and Fire (often they specialize in just one) but they don't shoot lightning from their finger-tips or anything. Telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition--things like that are allowed, but please don't make it the base of your characters power!
The Elements As said, witches will often specialize on one element. Heres a few ways to tell which element your character should be best at:
Fire- cruel, dark, often used in the Darkest Covens rituals. Sultry and wild. Fire is the most dangerous and life-consuming of the four elements. Warnings go out to anybody brave enough to try and master this element.
Air- flighty, quick, gossip-y, bi-polar. Often used in the Dreamers Coven spells as there are both dark, and light properties when using Air. People using are must be careful not to get caught up in the moment. Its an amazing rush to use this element.
Water- clairvoyant, healing, calm, powerful. Its always the shy ones that end up being the powerful one! Water is used by the leaders of the Coven, and universally among everybody, although the Darkest Coven tends to stay away from it if they can!
Earth- The Light Ones Coven uses earth a lot. Mother Nature, purity, strength, and pride are all infused in this element. Earth is usually used as a flashy way of telling somebody to back off (not many natural earth quakes happen in New Salem, so a little shake will scare most anybody) Earth is a tough, but ultimately beautiful and white element.[/blockquote]
